Please read through this information carefully to get a preliminary idea of how to bring Girls on the Run to your community.
Girls on the Run International© develops Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs by creating and supporting Girls on the Run Councils in communities that wish to bring the program their girls. If you are interested in bringing the program to your community, there are several steps you need to take to determine whether setting up a Council is right and available for you.
You will first need to determine if a Council already exists in your town, county or part of the state. To find out if you are within an existing Council's territory, click here for a list of all GOTR locations. Go do this now.
If you found a Council whose territory includes your community, please contact the Council Director directly and tell them you are interested in getting involved with the program. Each Council is unique and operates independently, so the Director will be able to let you know what opportunities exist in the area.
If there isn't a Council serving your community, please read through this information to find out if applying to start a new GOTR Council is something you would be interested in. You will need to determine which Council option best supports your ideas and will best serve your community.
Two options exist for bringing Girls on the Run to your community: 1. Affiliate Council – with this option you will apply to partner with an existing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to deliver GOTR programming. 2. Independent Council – with this option you will start your own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to deliver GOTR programming.
There is a formal application and approval process that you MUST complete in order to become a new GOTR Council. Not all applications are accepted.
If your application is accepted you will be registered to attend of one of the two national trainings we offer each year. The trainings prepare you to run the business side of your GOTR Council and to deliver the GOTR curricula. Attendance at a national training is required in order to start a new Council.
The next step is for you to request more information about the new Council process. Please click here to request that information.
Everyday, we get calls and emails from people all over the country interested and passionate about starting a Council of some sort in their communities. Our plan is to keep track of where people are planning to start a program to avoid duplicating efforts and to facilitate passionate people in the same area joining forces to start the program. We can only do this if we know your plans, so please stay in touch.
